WHAT IS THE EVENT?
SOMETHING DIFFERENT - A pop up event in Leederville
7th - 9th November 2014
Friday 5-9pm • Sat & Sun 10-4pm
The Leederville Arena
(cnr Newcastle and Oxford St, Leederville)
This INAUGURAL event is a market space made up of 40+ individual artists and makers, all selling their own products for their own profit (we are a not for profit event). We are running it as an offline Etsy festival.
The focus is EAT, SHOP, DRINK – To combine these 3 things rather than just focusing solely on the hand crafted goods. We will be attracting those who are after experiencing and enjoying an EVENT rather than exclusively browsing items at a craft market. We will also be building relationships with neighbouring businesses to integrate the event with the wider community. This event is presented by ETSY Australia and run by volunteers of the ETSY WA Street Team.
Stall holders will be selected by an ETSY jury, based on application merit. Categories of sellers may include: Fine art, home décor, stationery, jewellery, ceramics, furniture, clothing, vintage, children's or infant's products, beauty, fashion and accessories (not jewellery), packaged food products, plants & garden ware. All products must be designed, created and produced in Western Australia. Short workshops will also be offered across the weekend.
The arena is flanked by 2 restaurants. The owners of the space, Bill's Bites and The Garden, will be selling food and beverages to visitors, and we will be adding to the festive vibe by playing music, streaming videos on a big screen, and opening a small bar. There is a grassed area for shoppers to relax and unwind and of course a multitude of varied and unique hand crafted products to purchase. The space will be themed in the orange colours of Etsy to tie everything together and add to a cohesive event.
WHO WILL ATTEND?
The demographic of visitors will be 20-40 year old adults – 30% with small families. We are aiming for this to be an inclusive event where there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
We aim to get at least 3,000 visitors through the door over the 3 days and will target our marketing with postcard distribution/ poster displays and social media marketing. Etsy Australia will be posting and blogging on our behalf (Etsy has just under 2 million Facebook followers internationally and Etsy Australia has just over 20,000)
We will also include target social media marketing as well as print media (Local newspapers) and Weekend West editorials.
The handmade community is ever present on social media. To span the tyranny of distance in Perth, our members are online and active. We will be harnessing the Etsy community to spread the word. The interest of hand crafting enthusiasts and ETSY followers will also be spiked and they are expected to attend in large numbers.
Friday Night will be ‘Opening Night’, with a party atmosphere. We will be handing out ‘showbags’ and have a range of surprises planned for the evening.
